Wix page checker

Paste a page’s source. See what Google can read on it, plus the apps installed on your site and its Custom Code.

Free. No signup. Nothing you paste leaves this browser.

Check a page

Everything from View page source. Up to 8 MB; a Wix page source is usually well under that.

Optional

Only needed when the source doesn’t include its own address. Wix page sources usually do.

Read in this browser, never uploaded. Up to 8 MB.

No source handy? Try a made-up page:

Juniper & Oak Candle Co. and Northfield Tea Supply are made-up stores.

How to get a page’s source
  1. On a computer, open the page on your live, published site, not in the Editor or Preview. A private window shows what visitors see.
  2. Open its source:
    • Chrome or Edge: Ctrl+U on Windows, ⌥ Option+⌘ Cmd+U on a Mac. Or right-click the page and choose View page source.
    • Firefox: Ctrl+U, or ⌘ Cmd+U on a Mac.
    • Safari: first turn on Show features for web developers in Safari’s Settings, under Advanced. Then choose Develop › Show Page Source.
  3. Select everything (Ctrl+A or ⌘ Cmd+A), copy it and paste it above.

Most phone browsers make page source hard to reach. Use a computer, or try a made-up page.

View page source shows the HTML Wix’s servers send your browser. To see exactly what Googlebot gets, Wix’s guide shows how to switch your browser to Googlebot first.

A page saved with “Save page as” can differ, so View page source is the safer copy.

    www.juniperandoak.example/product-page/cedar-smoke-soy-candle

    Why this matters

A canonical tag names the main address of a page, so search engines know which copy to show. Wix writes it for you.

The page names its language: English (en).

  • Fix:

This page still has template text in three places.

The social description (og:description): I’m a product description. I’m a great place to add more details about your product such as sizing, material,…

A paragraph: I’m a product description. I’m a great place to add more details about your product such as sizing, material,…

The structured data (Product description): I’m a product description. I’m a great place to add more details about your product such as sizing, material,…

    What to do in Wix
    1. Product text: Products , then (this product), then replace the sample description with your own.
    2. Text on the page itself: select it in the editor and type over it.
    3. Search and social text: the page’s SEO settings (Basics and Social share).
    Why this matters

Wix templates come with sample text. This was never replaced, and it’s live: shoppers and search engines can read it.

  • Check:

This page has two main headings (H1).

    1. Juniper & Oak Candle Co.

    2. Cedar & Smoke Soy Candle (product name)

    What to do in Wix
    1. Change the extra ones to a smaller heading or plain text:
    2. Wix Editor: Edit Text , then SEO & accessibility , then Choose HTML tag.
    3. Studio Editor: Edit Text , then Inspector , then HTML tag.
    4. Wix Harmony: Use the Text styles drop-down on the action bar.
    5. Text inside a Wix app, like Wix Stores: Settings , then SEO & accessibility , then Change heading tag.
    Why this matters

The H1 is the page’s main heading. Wix says: “H1s added to a site header will appear on all pages where the header is displayed. We therefore recommend adding headings to the page body instead.” Wix’s SEO Hub also advises one H1.

On store product pages, Wix usually makes the product name the H1, so the others often come from your header or footer.

  • Check:

One picture uses a file name as alt text.

    candle-pour-final-v2.jpg

    Why this matters

Alt text should say what the picture shows. A file name tells search engines and screen readers nothing about it.

3 notes
  • Note:

Three product pictures in grids or sliders have empty alt text.

    Picture linking to /product-page/amber-glass-votive

    Picture linking to /product-page/wood-wick-trio

    Picture linking to /product-page/linen-room-spray

    What to do in Wix
    1. Wix doesn’t say whether a product’s alt text reaches its grids. Add alt text to one product, publish, and check this page’s source again.
    2. Product pictures: Products , then (the product) , then Images and videos , then More Actions , then Edit alt text, then write what the picture shows. Copy to all images uses the same text for every picture of that product.
    Why this matters

Alt text describes a picture in words, for search engines and screen readers. These pictures have alt="", which tells both to skip them.

Wix can’t write alt text from the file name or product name for you.

Source: Wix Stores: Automatically generating alt text for product images

  • Note:

One picture file has a camera or screenshot name.

    IMG_0452.png

    Why this matters

A file name can say what a picture shows; these still have the name a camera or screenshot gave them. Name new uploads after what they show. Product photos are different: Wix says the file name doesn’t appear in their address.

10 links: 9 to this site, 1 to another site.

    Other sites: juniperandoak.wixsite.com

1 link points to a free Wix address (juniperandoak.wixsite.com). If it’s your own, Wix redirects it to your domain, so link to your domain instead.

    Why this matters

Search engines find pages by following links. Google can follow a link when it’s a real <a href> link.

Two apps show pop-ups and sign-up forms.

    Lantern Spin Wheel (third-party)

    Puddlejump Pop-ups (third-party)

    What to do in Wix
    1. If they do the same job, keep the one you use and delete the other in Manage Apps in your dashboard.
    2. Deleting an app doesn’t cancel its subscription.
    Why this matters

If both are switched on, shoppers can see both. Wix says each app you add brings its own JavaScript, and it can’t optimize third-party apps.

  • Check:

Custom Code loads Fernwhistle Forms, and no Fernwhistle Forms app is installed.

Custom Code snippet Signup forms (Body – end, all pages)

    What to do in Wix
    1. If you don’t use it: Settings , then Custom Code, then turn the snippet off and test your site. Wix suggests one snippet at a time.
    2. Check your pages for a widget the app left behind.
    3. Also look in Marketing Integrations in your dashboard, where Wix connects tracking tools.
    Why this matters

If you use Fernwhistle Forms through this code, that’s fine. If not, it may be left over from an app you removed: Wix doesn’t state that removing an app removes every script it added.

    3. Deleting an app doesn’t cancel its subscription, and can delete its data. Export what you need first.

This list is for the whole site: Wix puts the site’s app list in each page’s source. Wix says it can’t optimize third-party apps, and that each app you add brings its own JavaScript.

    What to do in Wix

    2. To find what a snippet does, Wix suggests turning snippets off one at a time and testing your site after each change.
    Why this matters

Custom Code is code added in your site’s settings. Wix tools can add entries here too, such as a Google verification tag. Wix says snippets don’t appear as elements in the editor, so they’re easy to forget.

    Why this matters

Apps from the Wix App Market usually don’t show up as scripts: their code isn’t in the source. What shows here was written into the page, usually by Custom Code.

Source: Wix: Embedding custom code on your site

1 note
  • Note:

The source is 14 KB, with 13 scripts.

4 load from an address, 9 are written into the page.

    What to do in Wix
    1. Measure the page in PageSpeed Insights, then turn an app or snippet off and measure again.
    Why this matters

Size and script counts don’t tell you how fast the page is. To see what an app costs, test the page with and without it. Wix’s own advice: “Limit the number of apps and widgets on each page.”

Sources: Wix: About Core Web Vitals · Wix blog: Website speed optimization

What this can’t see

  • Anything a script adds after the page loads. Wix puts the title, description, canonical tag, structured data, headings and pictures in the source. Some widgets, like product grids, can fill in later.
  • The page’s status: a “page not found” page can look like a normal page here.
  • HTTP headers, such as an X-Robots-Tag noindex. The source doesn’t include them.
  • Whether Google has indexed the page. URL Inspection in Search Console, or Wix’s Site Inspection, tells you that.
  • Speed. Use PageSpeed Insights or the Site Speed dashboard in Wix.
  • Your other pages, links to this one, your sitemap and robots.txt.
  • Pages behind a login, and anything Wix may send differently to phones, logged-in owners or other languages.

A clean check doesn’t mean the page will rank.

The checks follow Wix’s and Google’s own help pages, as of October 2026.

What each check means ↓

What each check means

View page source shows the HTML Wix’s servers send your browser: the title, description, canonical tag, structured data, headings and pictures. To see exactly what Googlebot gets, Wix’s guide shows how to switch your browser to Googlebot first. The checker reads the source in your browser and says what each part means for Google and where to change it in Wix.

Can Google index it?

A noindex robots tag asks search engines to leave a page out of their results. Wix adds it when “Let search engines index this page” is off, for one page, a page type or the whole site. Wix doesn’t index blog tag and archive pages by default. Cart, checkout and thank-you pages don’t need to be in search, so a noindex there is fine.

The canonical tag names a page’s main address. Wix writes one on every page, pointing at the page itself, so one that points elsewhere was probably changed by hand. Why Wix pages aren’t indexed

How it shows in Google

The title tag is the blue link in a search result. Wix advises under 60 characters (its SEO Setup Checklist says 55–70 for a home page). Google publishes no limit; it cuts titles to fit the screen and may rewrite them, so the width shown here is our estimate.

Wix leaves the meta description blank by default on most pages. Without one, Google writes its own snippet from the page, which is allowed. Wix titles and meta descriptions

What is on the page

The H1 is a page’s main heading. On store product pages, Wix usually makes the product name the H1, so extra ones often come from text in the header or footer. Wix suggests keeping headings out of the header.

Alt text describes a picture in words. Wix can’t write it for you from a file or product name, and sample text from a template can stay live until someone replaces it.

Structured data

Wix writes structured data for you: Product markup on product pages, BlogPosting on posts, and LocalBusiness or WebSite on some home pages. Its quirks, like a price written as text, aren’t errors. For merchant listings, Google requires a name, a picture, a price above 0 and a currency. Even then, a rich result isn’t guaranteed.

Wix’s Product markup leaves out shipping and returns. Build return and shipping policy markup

Apps and Custom Code

Every Wix page carries the site’s app list, so any one page shows it. Custom Code doesn’t appear in the editor, and Wix doesn’t say that removing an app removes every script it added. Wix wants tracking pixels in Marketing Integrations, not Custom Code. Finding code left by removed apps

Wix says it can’t optimize third-party apps. The checker never guesses at speed: to see what an app costs, test the page with and without it. Wix apps and site speed

Why paste the source instead of a web address?

Because this reads exactly what your page sends, and nothing is fetched for you. Wix itself warns that some outside checkers report tags as missing when they’re there. View page source shows the HTML Wix’s servers send your browser.

Is my page source uploaded or saved?

No. The checker reads it in your browser. Nothing you paste or choose leaves this page, and nothing is saved: close the tab and it’s gone. “Copy a summary” copies the findings only, never the source.

Why does it show fewer pictures than my page?

Wix puts most pictures in the source, but some widgets, like product grids, can add theirs with JavaScript after the page loads. The checker reads the source, so it counts the pictures that are there.

Can I check someone else’s page?

Yes. Any public page works the same way. Every Wix page carries its site’s app list and Custom Code, so you’ll see those too.

Can I check a page on my phone?

Most phone browsers make page source hard to reach, so a computer is easier. On a phone, try one of the made-up pages to see what the checker finds.
