WIX STORES
How do I send abandoned cart emails (and texts) on Wix?
Wix Stores has a built-in abandoned cart email: turn it on under Abandoned Carts in your dashboard. A cart counts as abandoned after an hour with no change, once Wix has the shopper’s email, and the delay you set starts after that hour. For a second reminder, add a second automation with a longer delay.

1. Turn on Wix’s abandoned cart email
- In your dashboard, go to Abandoned Carts.
- If Cart recovery email automation shows Inactive, click the toggle to turn it on.
- To edit it, click Show next to Cart recovery email automation, then Edit next to Email visitors to recover abandoned carts. Click Publish Changes when you’re done.
- In the Wix app: tap Manage, then Sales, then Abandoned Carts.
Wix says this email works for Wix Stores, Wix Bookings and Pricing Plans, and that it’s already on for some stores.
While you’re in the automation, set a sender name: click the Send an email action, then Edit under Sender details. Wix suggests a name customers will recognize, such as your business name.
The Abandoned Carts page lists your abandoned carts whether or not the email is on. Shoppers who unsubscribed from your mailing list don’t get it.

2. What counts as an abandoned cart on Wix?
Wix counts a cart as abandoned only when three things are true. The shopper added items to the cart. The cart hasn’t changed for at least an hour, or an hour has passed since they closed the tab. And Wix has their email address, because they logged in to your site or finished the Customer details step of checkout. So a shopper who never gave an email gets no reminder.
Carts stay in the Abandoned Carts tab for 30 days, then Wix removes them. You can copy a link to a shopper’s cart, for example to send in a chat, but Wix says you can’t use the link to view a site member’s cart, for security reasons.
Want to know why carts are left? Why shoppers abandon carts on Wix stores looks at the visits behind them. It’s on the site of Session Recordings, from the same team.
3. When does the email really arrive?
Later than the delay you set. The delay starts only once the cart counts as abandoned, and that takes an hour. Wix’s own example: set a 2-hour delay, and the email arrives in 3 hours. To change the delay, open the automation, click Delay, set it and click Apply.
Choose the delay for the email’s job. A shopper who was interrupted may only need a quick way back. Someone weighing a costly item may need time, or answers. Wix’s help page doesn’t recommend a delay.
How this compares with Shopify, and what one study found about timing: when each cart reminder sends.
4. Add a second reminder
Wix’s cart automation sends one email. For a second, Wix says to create another automation with a longer delay, and that you can add a coupon code. A coupon you add isn’t sent by itself: Wix says to put its code into the email.
Give the second email a new job, such as help with sizing or a real end date, not the same nudge again. And offer a coupon only if you’d give it anyway: it also lowers what you make from shoppers who would have come back without it.
Wix’s help pages don’t say whether that second email still goes out after the shopper orders. So test it: leave a cart, place the order, and check that the email doesn’t arrive.
Before you add more, read when to stop a reminder.
Thinking of a coupon? The discount break-even calculator shows how many more orders it needs to make the same profit.

5. Can Wix send cart reminder texts?
Not with the built-in cart reminder: it’s an email. Here is where Wix’s texting stood in its help pages in October 2026.
Wix Messaging sends only preset texts for Wix Bookings, Table Reservations and Restaurants Orders. You can’t create your own automations or write your own messages there.
The automation builder’s Send an SMS action needs a Wix Business Phone Number plan. Wix stopped selling that plan to new sites on June 4, 2025. Sites that have one, or had one, can keep using it.
SMS campaigns to the US and Canada need a toll-free number from Wix, and carriers must confirm your business first. Wix says that review usually takes up to 5 business days. Some of Wix’s drip campaign templates include a text message. Neither help page says a text can go out by itself when a cart is left.

6. Adding texts with the shopper’s consent
Text only shoppers who agreed to get texts from you. Agreeing to emails isn’t agreeing to texts.
For SMS campaigns, Wix asks for a sign-up form with a phone number field and its own SMS consent checkbox. The box can’t be shared with your newsletter or terms, and it must be unticked by default and optional. Its words must say what kind of texts you’ll send, how often, that message and data rates may apply, and how to opt out or get help. If you collect consent at checkout instead, go to Settings, click Checkout and select Show separate opt-in checkboxes for email and SMS at checkout.
myuser.ai, which publishes this guide, writes and sends cart reminders by email and text for Wix stores, to shoppers who agreed to hear from you. Texts are for US and Canadian businesses and need an approved sending number. If myuser.ai sends your cart reminders, turn off Wix’s Cart recovery email automation so each shopper gets one.
Writing the text? Copy one of the cart texts that fit in one SMS.

7. Test it before you count on it
- Open your live site in an incognito window.
- Add an item to the cart and go to checkout.
- Enter the shipping details, with an email address you can check.
- Click Continue.
- Close the tab and wait for the email.
Wix says both the test shopper and you, the site owner, get a notification. With a 2-hour delay, expect it about 3 hours after you close the tab.
When it arrives, open it on a phone and tap the button. Check that it brings back the cart you left, with the right item. Then test your second reminder the same way, and place an order to check that it stops.
