SETUP GUIDE

Set up one cart follow-up. Test every step.

Pick one cart reminder. Set who can get it, what starts it and when it stops. Check the message and cart link. Then test both a send and a stop.

Copy the send and stop sheet
In this guide

1. Write one clear send plan

Use this starting point: “A person on our email list left a tote in their cart. The email gives them a way back to that tote.”

Name what starts the email. Your app may call this a trigger. In Shopify, leaving a cart before checkout and leaving during checkout start different rules. Pick the one you want to test.

Choose one app to send this reminder. Check your other apps for the same send. Then note the wait time and what should stop the email.

For this first test, use an address you own that joined your list. Make sure the signup saved in the app that sends.

2. Build the whole email

Keep it small: store name, the item, a short reminder and a cart button. Add your sender details and the link to leave your list.

For the tote, try “Your Everyday Tote is still in your cart.” Show the right color, price and photo. Use “Back to my cart” for a button that opens that saved cart.

Open the link while signed out. Check that the tote is there. A link to the store’s home page does a different job.

Send a test to your own inbox. Read it on a phone. Try the button and the link to leave the list. Do this even when the editor preview looks good.

3. Set up the sender and controls

  1. Add myuser.ai to Shopify. Turn on its app embed in your store’s theme and save. This switch lets it see visits.
  2. Review the email designs made from your store. Check the photos, words and links.
  3. Check a signup with your own inbox. You can use myuser.ai’s sender; your own domain can wait.
  4. Choose email and check the cart-email setting. Turn off any old rule that sends the same reminder.
  5. Turn myuser.ai on when the setup is ready. Find the pause control before you leave.

In myuser.ai, follow the steps below. A template is the design myuser.ai uses to make each shopper’s email. Check the final message on the shopper’s page too.

myuser.ai uses visits and past messages to plan follow-ups. Its weekly message goal guides how often it writes. Check each planned message and its time.

If you use Shopify Messaging, choose the matching cart or checkout email under Automations. Check its send rules and draft before you turn it on.

4. Test a send and a stop

Three cases to check
Test shopperWhat to check
On the list; left a cart; no orderThe right reminder reaches the send step.
Bought before the email was dueThe old cart reminder stops.
Left the email list before the sendNo marketing email is sent.

A cart email should stop if the shopper buys first. It should also skip someone who left your email list. Use the three checks below. They are a test plan, not results from a real store.

If your app has a test mode, start there. Shopify Flow has Test your workflow. It can check a path with sample events before the rule is on. That test does not send the email or change store data.

Keep the email test and the rule test separate. One checks the message in an inbox. The other checks who reaches the send step.

If a buyer still gets reminders, check that their order reached the app. Then check the rule that should have stopped the send.

A recording can help inspect the storefront part of your test: the product page, a signup form and the page reached from the email. Keep the send log and subscription or order record beside it. The player cannot explain a backend rule that skipped a send, and a checkout-button moment does not prove a completed checkout. Match the time and action before deciding which part failed.

5. Read the first send log

Find one shopper in the log. Did the app see the cart? What did it plan? Did it send or stop? Write down the result while you can still find it.

In Shopify Flow, open the flow and its Recent runs. Each run is a log of one trip through the rules. In myuser.ai, open the shopper’s page to check their visits, orders and messages.

Fix the first step that failed. A new subject will not fix an email that never sends. A longer series will not fix a wrong cart link.

Once the path works, watch delivery, clicks and orders. Keep checking for sends after a purchase. Add another follow-up only when it has a clear job.
